Committee Advances Abstinence Bills
Senate Bills SB 943 and 944 have passed the Senate and are now under consideration in the House. The House Education Committee, chaired by Rep. Brian Palmer, voted 12-1 and 11-1 to approve the bills. The full House is expected to vote on the bills next week.

Prepared to "Marry"
Same-Sex Couples
As the State of Massachusetts prepares to begin issuing "marriage" licenses to same-sex couples in June, defenders of traditional marriage in Michigan are forging ahead with a petition drive to bring an amendment to the November ballot. Citizens for the Protection of Marriage continues to circulate petitions and offer training to those who are interested in finding out how to gather signatures. Set to Vote on Plan to Strengthen Marriage
The Michigan House is expected to vote Wednesday on a package of bills that will strengthen marriage. The bills include new guidelines for marriage counseling and protection of children during divorce. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact your state representative to ask for their support.

A recent survey of 1,004 parents of children under 17 years of age by Zogby International found that 96 percent of parents think that abstinence from sexual activity is best for teens.
