Abstinence Bills Await Governor’s Signature

The Michigan House this week sent the final version of two MFF-initiated bills designed to strengthen abstinence education to the Governor. The Governor’s staff has indicated she will sign them. The bills require greater parental involvement in sex ed curriculum decisions and provide penalties for schools that violate state sex ed guidelines.

"Protect Marriage Yes" Petition Drive Steams Ahead

The phone at MFF headquarters continues to ring steadily this week with requests for petitions for the Michigan Marriage Amendment (MMA). Individuals seeking petitions are encouraged to visit the following website, www.protectmarriageyes.org, and contact their county coordinator.

Volunteers are also needed to help count and sort incoming petitions. If you are interested in helping, contact the Coalition headquarters at (248) 477-1043, or email, melwell@freedomisp.net.

Additional signatures are still vitally important in order to meet the goal. Please continue your efforts to place this important amendment on the ballot in November so that Michigan’s citizens will have the final say on what constitutes a marriage in this state.

Legislature Passes Partial-Birth Abortion Ban

itiated Legislation Speaks Loud and Clear

Michigan’s citizens spoke loudly and clearly with their pens during the recent "People’s Override" petition to end partial-birth abortion in Michigan. The Legislature this week acknowledged the voice of the people and passed the citizen-initiated bill into law.

The law takes effect in ninety days. Some groups have threatened a legal challenge in federal court. For up to date information, click here.

LAST CHANCE – Free Youth Event in Grand Rapids!

Teens from across Michigan will descend on Grand Rapids this coming Friday, June 18 for "Momentum 2004." This totally free event will feature Miss America 2003 – Erika Harold addressing attendees on abstinence and purity, and will also include the music of Wayburn Dean and "Crisi."

"Leading Edge" Peer Education Summit

Young people seeking training in how to promote abstinence in their schools are invited to a three-day conference in East Lansing, June 16-18. The minimal cost for this event is only $10 per student.

Student Statesmanship Institute (SSI) Offered Three Times This Summer

The Student Statesmanship Institute (SSI) is an exciting, annual week-long summer program for high school-aged teens. Tribute to the Gipper

Former President Ronald Reagan was a voice of strength and compassion for the American family. He believed in strong families, strong marriages and the preservation of life. His faith, strength, and positive vision for our nation brought out the best in all of us. He will be missed.
