Polls
Show Support for State Marriage Amendment
More than 480,000 Michigan voters have spoken loud and clear regarding their desire for an amendment to the Michigan Constitution defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Those same voters and many more will be needed in November to ensure the amendment’s passage.
In a recent poll, sixty-one percent (61%) of respondents indicated that they support the amendment. Thirty-four percent (34%) were opposed with the remaining 5 percent (5%) saying they were undecided.

U.S.
Senate Votes on Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA)
On July 14, the U.S. Senate defeated a cloture vote that would have allowed the FMA debate to continue. The final tally was 48 for, 50 against. Senators John Kerry and John Edwards did not vote. Michigan’s two Senators, Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, voted no.
Pro-family groups remain optimistic for the FMA’s future. Even though the debate has ended in the Senate for now, legislators clearly know that more and more Americans are supporting the FMA. Senate phone lines jammed throughout the week as thousands phoned in asking for their Senator to support the FMA.

Quote
of the Week
"I am deeply disappointed that the effort to pass a constitutional amendment affirming the sanctity of marriage as being between a man and a woman was temporarily blocked in the Senate. Activist judges and local officials in some parts of the country are not letting up in their efforts to redefine marriage for the rest of America and neither should defenders of traditional marriage flag in their efforts. It is important for our country to continue the debate on this important issue, and I urge the House of Representatives to pass this amendment."
