Partisan Politics Delay Marriage Amendment Certification
Court Likely to Certify Vote Quickly

Supporters of traditional marriage were shocked on Monday when the Michigan Board of Canvassers decided to not certify the "Protect Marriage Yes" petitions. The vote was split evenly between the Board’s two Republican (yes) and two Democratic (no) members. The dissenting members claimed that the ballot language was unconstitutional.

"The Board of Canvassers clearly acted outside of their area of authority," said Michigan Family Forum Executive Director Brad Snavely. "The Coalition (Citizens for the Protection of Marriage) followed all prescribed rules for conducting a petition drive and turned in more than enough valid signatures. This decision was biased and partisan."

Snavely was quick to add that he is confident that the Court of Appeals will overturn the Board’s decision and quickly certify the vote.

Several articles have been written about the controversial vote. Click the links below to read them.

Dick Cheney Makes Controversial Statement Regarding Gay Marriage

Vice President Dick Cheney caused on uproar earlier this week when he made statements indicating he does not support the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA). The Vice President continues to assert that marriage laws should be left up to the states. He also believes that the federal DOMA law is sufficient to protect marriage.

Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins disagreed strongly with the Vice President’s position. For more information, visit FRC’s website, www.frc.org. For more on this story, click here.

Quote of the Week

"Living arrangements influence children's daily interactions with adult role models and can affect the potential economic resources available for such things as education, personal development, and extracurricular activities. One particularly influential characteristic is whether children are living with two married parents. Studies have shown that children living with two married parents have more daily interactions, such as eating meals together and talking or playing, than those living with two unmarried parents."

Study Shows Fathers Influence Their Children’s Attitudes About Sex

A study published in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence looked at 750 inner-city African American youth between the ages of 14 and 17. The researchers concluded that sexual behavior among the teens could be predicted with some accuracy based on each child's perceptions of his father's attitudes about sex.

To put this in more friendly terms, these teenagers' sexual activity was strongly influenced by what they knew their fathers' believed about sex. And it was true for fathers much more than mothers. For more information,
