Polls
Continue to Show Slight Lead for Proposal 2
As the November election draws near, new polls continue to show a slight lead in support for Proposal 2. The proposal would amend the Michigan constitution to define marriage as the union of a man and a woman. One of the more recent polls conducted by the Detroit Free Press indicated that 53-percent of respondents supported the proposal, while 40-percent opposed it. Six-percent were undecided. They continue to allege that the ballot language will take away existing domestic partner benefits. This is untrue. The amendment merely affirms the current public policy of our state. In fact, the University of Michigan recently stated that the language would not affect its domestic partner benefits.
"These groups view the race here as being closer than most other states with amendments on the ballot in November," said MFF Executive Director Brad Snavely. "It makes it even more important that supporters of traditional marriage take the time to vote and encourage their friends and family to do likewise." For more information,

Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm recently approved the Family Independence Agency (FIA) budget for the coming fiscal year. Among the items in the budget are federal funds earmarked for community marriage and fatherhood initiatives. The Governor vetoed similar funds in last year’s budget.
