Supreme
Court Refuses to Hear Gay Adoption Case
The United States Supreme Court decided this week that it would not hear a case regarding same-sex couple adoption. The state of Florida is the only state that currently bars same-sex couples from adopting children. The Supreme Court case in question was filed in an attempt to overturn that law.
"This is a good sign," said MFF Executive Director Brad Snavely. "The Court has basically said that it is up to the state’s to decide. Research clearly indicates that children do the best in a home with a loving father and a loving mother. Every child deserves the chance to have a married mom and dad. Florida should be commended for recognizing that."

Schools
Boards Respond to MFF Publication
Earlier this month, Michigan Family Forum mailed a copy of our recent publication, "Sex Education: Rights and Responsibilities in Michigan Law" to every school superintendent and school board in the state. Several superintendents, school board members, and school health officers have called to request additional copies. Clearly, the information provided in the booklet is helpful to public school officials.

FTC
Shuts Down X-Rated Spam
Claiming a victory against X-rated spam, the Federal Trade Commission late Tuesday won an order to shut down illegal Internet advertising for six companies accused of profiting from sexually explicit e-mail.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Philip M. Pro in Las Vegas granted the commission's request for preliminary injunctions against the companies, their executives and an affiliate, which would last the length of the FTC's civil suit against them. The FTC says the defendants violated federal laws regulating commercial electronic mail, commonly known as spam.

As lawmakers gathered for their first day of session in Lansing, opponents of Michigan’s Marriage Amendment (Proposal Two) gathered to protest on the steps of the Capitol. Organizers of the rally said they wanted to make sure the incoming Legislature was aware of their opposition to the amendment.
"Same-sex marriage activists continue to fight Proposal Two’s passage," said MFF Executive Director Brad Snavely. "They simply refuse to accept that the public has spoken and voters overwhelmingly support marriage as it is currently defined."
Ten other states passed similar amendments in November. A case is pending in a Federal Court challenging Oklahoma’s amendment. It is widely expected that the case will eventually reach the U.S. Supreme Court.
President
Bush Speaks Out About His Faith
President Bush recently said that he doesn't "see how you can be
president without a relationship with the Lord," but that he is always
mindful to protect the right of others to worship or not worship.
Mr. Bush told editors and reporters of The Washington Times in an interview in
the Oval Office that many in the public misunderstand the role of faith in his
life and his view of the proper relationship between religion and the
government.
